Home > Support > E-mail Filtering
Current, up to date support can be found at www.beanbasket.com/support.jsp.
When we receive email, each message is independently scanned
and checked according to the preferences available for each
email account. Any compressed or archive files (i.e. ZIP files)
are also extracted and each file contained therein is subsequently
scanned for viruses. If a virus or spam message is detected,
we immediately adjust the message headers of the email to
reflect what is found and then filter the message according
to your account preferences. Our virus detection software
is continually updated to prevent the spread of new viruses.
Numerous filtering options are available per email account.
These settings can be easily adjusted by logging into the
client
cockpit and editing the account from the "Logins"
main menu option. Your edit screen should look similar to
the following:

Please be sure that spam and virus filtering is enabled for
your account. If not enabled, you should either utilize the
basic spam filtering service or contact
us to enable advanced filtering for your account. The
table below representsthe options available to you with spam
and virus filtering enabled:
|
Option Name
|
Recommended Setting |
Description |
| Tag Subject |
Disabled |
Enabling this option will modify the subject
of the original email message by prefixing it with either
"SPAM" or "VIRUS". This is most useful
if you have Separate Folders disabled and all messages
show up in your main inbox. |
| Sender Bounce |
Disabled |
If this option is enabled, it ensures the
sender of a message to your account has a domain name
that can receive email. Enabling this can cause email
to be filtered if someone misconfigured their return email
address. |
Check Blacklists |
Enabled |
Blacklists contain sites which are known
to send a large amount of spam or operate open relays.
If you are on any mailing lists, enabling this may filter
email from those lists |
| Score Spam |
Enabled |
The message is checked for various general
spam characteristics.
Score Porn Enabled The message is checked for various
pornographic characteristics. |
| Score Racist |
Enabled |
The message is checked for various offensive
racist characteristics.
Filter Level High The more aggressive your filter level,
the more spam may be caught. It is also possible that
legitimate email may be filtered with more aggressive
settings. |
| DetectExecutables |
Disabled |
Detect attached files that are executable.
Executable files may cause damage to your computer when
run and include files with extensions such as .exe, .com,
.bat, .vbs, .cmd. These email messages will be filtered
per other settings, not actually deleted. |
| Separate Folders |
Enabled |
Enabling this will filter your spam and
virus messages to a "Spam" and "Virus"
folder rather than keeping these messages in your main
inbox. These folders are accessible via IMAP. |
| Expire After |
None |
Sets the number of days in which spam or
virus messages are stored. This setting is only valid
if the Separate Folders option is enabled. Leaving it
blank will keep messages indefinitely. |
| Disinfect Viruses |
Disabled |
If enabled, any attachments determined to
have a virus will be deleted. It is possible for the virus
scanner to falsely detect viruses but it is extremely
rare. |
| Sender Virus Alert |
Disabled |
If enabled, the sender of the email virus
will be notified they sent you a virus. |
